Posterior Vortex Veins in Healthy Eyes Captured by Ultra-widefield OCTA

Perfectly consistent with ICG New research published in the Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science investigated the incidence and characteristics of posterior vortex veins (PVVs) in healthy eyes and explored their relationship with age and refractive status by using ultra-widefield OCTA (UWF-OCTA). This study confirmed PVVs' presence in healthy eyes (16.1%, 82/510) and classified PVVs into three types based on the location of the vortex vein exit from the eyes: those around the optic disc (fig.1 C), those in the macula area (fig.1 F), and those in other areas of the posterior pole (fig.1 I). Interestingly, this study revealed a predominant presence of PVVs around the optic disc (fig.2), followed by other areas.

A Wireless Battery-free Eye Modulation Patch for High Myopia Therapy

The new study recently published in (IF=16.6) presented a battery-free eye modulation patch designed to correct high myopia and prevent relapse. Positioned on the sclera near the optic nerve, corresponding to the macular area, the patch uses piezoelectric transduction to convert external ultrasound into electrical energy, and then controls the device’s components. The micro-actuator creates gas bubbles, causing a membrane to expand and retract the sclera behind the macula, effectively shortening AXL (axial length) for vision correction. The microneedle array delivers riboflavin to the posterior sclera, while μ-LEDs induce scleral collagen cross-linking (SCXL), strengthening the sclera against high myopia-induced relaxation.

Dolphin in the Fundus

A 18-year-old male presented with an oval translucent cystic mass in the inferior nasal peripheral in his left eye as the color fundus (fig. A) shown. High-resolution swept-source OCTA revealed a 10.5 ×5mm "dolphin-shaped" epiretinal cystic hyperreflectivity on cross section image (fig. C) with a little blood flow signals detected in the "cystic wall" (fig. D). A diagnosis of congenital cyst of the vitreous was considered.

Central and Peripheral Changes Found in Both RVO Eyes and Unaffected Fellow Eyes

A study, recently published in , aimed to explore the central and peripheral retinal and choroidal changes in retinal vein occlusion (RVO) and fellow eyes by using a 400kHz speed UWF full-range SS-OCTA BMizar from TowardPi Medical. Comprehensive retinal and choroidal parameters were directly analyzed by the device and compared between CRVO and BRVO patients, including unaffected fellow eyes, and healthy controls.

Vessel Density Changes and It Is Positively Correlated with Disease Activity in SLE Eyes

A new study 'Quantitative assessment of retinal vasculature changes in systemic lupus erythematosus using wide-field OCTA and the correlation with disease activity' was recently published in the "Frontiers in Immunology" by using a 400KHz SS-OCT BMizar from TowardPi Medical.

A Thicker Sclera Was Found In SLE Patients Even Without Scleritis by Using SS-OCT

A thicker sclera was found by SS-OCT in SLE patients even without scleritis. A new study assessing scleral thickness (Nasal/Temporal scleral thickness 1mm, 2mm, 3mm, 6mm from the scleral spur; as shown) between SLE patients without clinically evident scleritis and episcleritis and healthy control was recently published in "Frontiers in Immunology" by using a 400KHz SS-OCT BMizar from TowardPi Medical.

Peripheral CVI Decreased in T2DM Patients Without DR, a New Study Using 400kHz Swept-Source OCTA

A new study on early choroidal lesions in NDR patients was published in "Photodiagnosis and Photodynamic Therapy". Choroidal parameters including the thickness and VD of the choroid was compared between NDR patients (T2DM without DR) and normal control. Reduced choroidal thickness and CVI in the peripheral choroid indicated that general atrophy in the peripheral large and medium choroidal vessels (LMCV) was more significant in the preclinical or early DR patients! Meanwhile, compared with 2D choroidal vessel density, 3D indicators (such as CVI) were more sensitive for detecting diabetic choroidopathy!

Coral in the Conjunctiva Captured with Swept-Source OCTA

A 28-year-old female with a 3-year history of tumor in the left eye. An isolated pink tumor was observed in the conjunctiva with an associated large vessel. . Pathological examination revealed conjunctival papilloma. Swept-source OCTA, Yalkaid from TowardPi Medical, was used in this case.

The Effect of Alcohol Consumption on the Choroidal and Retinal Microvasculature

A new study exploring the impact of acute, heavy alcohol consumption on the choroidal and retinal microvasculature was published in "Microvascular Research", elucidating notable choroidal arteriolovenular constriction, represented by reduced CV and CVV, and dilation of choroidal capillaries, represented by increased CCD, after acute alcohol consumption. 17 healthy volunteers aged 20 to 30 years consumed three different liquids (spirits, wine and water) in random sequence on three separate days.
