The 27th Congress of the Chinese Ophthalmological Society (CCOS 2023) was held on September 7, 2023, in Changsha, China. This year's theme was "Building Consensus for High-Quality Development and Shaping a Bright Future in the New Era”.

CCOS is the most important academic event in the field of ophthalmology in China. More than 10,000 local and international ophthalmology experts and scholars gather together to discuss the development status of ophthalmology, share the latest ophthalmic scientific and technological achievements, and contribute to the promotion of high-quality development of eye health.

TowardPi Medical showcased three major product lines at CCOS: ultra-widefield swept-source OCT/OCTA, intraoperative OCT ophthalmoscope, and swept-source biometers. All of these attracted many visitors to TowardPi’s booth and gained widespread attention.

From the ultra-widefield swept-source OCT/OCTA category, TowardPi showcased two BMizar 400KHz full-range swept-source OCTs and two Yalkaid 100KHz full-range swept-source OCT devices at CCOS 2023.

BMizar aims to help ophthalmologists reveal more previously unknown visual fields through its ultra-high scanning speed of 400,000 scans per second, extensive anterior and posterior segment depth of 6 mm, and ultra-widefield optical coherence tomography angiography (UWF-OCTA) with a single scan of 24 x 20 mm and an ultra-high resolution of 1536 x 1280 pixels.

Yalkaid is a comprehensive anterior and posterior segment widefield swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) device covering various clinical and research applications in ophthalmology. Yalkaid stands out with its extraordinary depth of 14 mm (in tissue) for the anterior segment and 12 mm (in tissue) for the posterior segment, significantly expanding the clinical application value of OCT.

TowardPi’s booth displayed over 20 quantified analyses derived from the 400KHz Swept-Source OCT BMizar, 15-second single-scans, 24 x 20 mm ultra-widefield optical coherence tomography angiography (UWF-OCTA) scans, patented choroid large vessel imaging based on the 3D-OCT AI lumen recognition algorithm, and various advanced vascular quantitative analyses.

Yalkaid, with its extraordinary 12 mm posterior segment depth, holds unique clinical value for retinal detachment, and the remarkable 14 mm anterior segment depth and its related quantifications, bring forth some "distinctive" functionalities.

  1. Animal experiments without any external lens

Animal experiments without any external lens, images captured with TowardPi

The BMizar is leading the way in the era of full-range swept-source OCTA, particularly when it comes to its advanced capabilities in animal experiments. Without the need for any external lens adapters, it can rapidly capture high-definition cross-sectional and blood flow images of animals and precisely segment the vascular network of the animals. It has become a preferred choice for research institutions with fundamental research needs.

For this exhibition, we obtained authorization from several hospitals to showcase a variety of data collected in the past, including the challenging C57 mice experiments. The BMizar not only effortlessly captured high-definition OCT and OCTA of C57 mice but also accurately segmented the OCTA of its retinal layers, clearly displaying the surface and deep-layer blood flow images of the retina.

Furthermore, it has collected panoramic views of the eyes of C57 mice, ultra-widefield choroid vascular images of chicken, panoramic views of zebrafish eyes, OCTA and high-definition OCT of the anterior and posterior segments of rabbits, and images of monkeys, cats, dogs, etc. The high-definition images and the convenience of the built-in various quantitative tools have received widespread acclaim.

  1. A new feature – 3D OCTA

3D OCTA is a recently launched image mode of three-dimensional reconstruction of the vascular network, which can intuitively reveal the spatial three-dimensional relationship of the vascular network. The 3D OCTA will take OCTA from the 2D era to the 3D era. TowardPi will develop more quantitative tools based on the 3D OCTA in the future. 1. Retinal Morphology Trio

TowardPi Retinal Morphology Trio

The Retinal Morphology Trio is a new feature developed by TowardPi Medical in collaboration with Beijing Union Medical College Hospital and Sun Yat Sen University's Sun Yat-Sen Ophthalmology Center. It also received a lot of attention during this exhibition. Retinal Morphology Trio is a series of quantifiable retinal morphology analysis functions based on OCT scanning technology, including the true 3D retina, retinal curvature, and retinal height map.

TowardPi’s new retinal morphology analysis based on OCT technology utilizes its advantages in OCT technology: 400KHz Swept-Source technology, 24 x 20 mm scanning range, and 6 mm depth field, which can quantify the three-dimensional Gaussian curvature and height of the retina point-by-point for 10 billions data points. It overcomes shortcomings of previous retinal morphology analysis based on OCT technology, such as too small range, too rough quantification, and limited clinical value. Therefore, it really takes the application of OCT in retinal morphology research to a new level.

The Retinal Morphology Trio function can be applied to the long-term monitoring of retinal morphology for the prevention and control of myopia in children. In addition, it can be used for the study of the relationship between pathological pathology of high myopia and retinal morphology. It is a new function that can cover ophthalmology and other ophthalmic subfields such as retinopathy of high myopia in the fundus. This function has received great attention and anticipation in this exhibition, and it is expected to benefit millions of refractive error groups in the world.

As the leader in the era of global swept-source OCT, TowardPi Medical will continue to carry out pioneering research and explore functions that could benefit clinical and scientific research needs. We are dedicated to contributing to the development of global eye health and hope to benefit more patients with breakthroughs in ophthalmic technology.
