Relationship Between Melatonin and CSC Discovered by UWF SS-OCTA!

Research published in International Ophthalmology investigates changes in melatonin secretion levels and their association with choroidal vasculature parameters in patients with central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC), using a UWF full-range SS-OCTA (#Bmizar, TowardPi).

This study revealed that CSC patients had lower levels of urinary 6-sulfatoxymelatonin (6-SMT). Normalized 6-SMT was found to have negative correlations with choroidal vascular volume (CVV), choroidal vascularity index (CVI), and choroidal thickness (CT), suggesting that decreased melatonin secretion might be a risk factor for CSC.
