Authored by Dr. Aníbal Francone and published in Ophthalmology Science, this study reveals the true mechanism of retinal hole healing immediately after surgery under gas tamponade, visualized using TowardPi OCT.
Anatomical closure was observed within the first 24–72 hours in a large proportion of cases. Early biomarkers can help predict surgical success, marking the beginning of an era of individualized face-down postoperative positioning. This approach has the potential to significantly reduce patient discomfort.
This important discovery was developed by the retina team at Clínica Charles – Dr. Martín Charles (Argentina), in collaboration with Dr. Andrea Govetto (Italy).
