The 2024 Academic Exchange Conference on Ocular Diseases, hosted by the National Clinical Medical Research Center for Eye Diseases, was held in Wuxi, Jiangsu from June 27th to 29th. During the conference, Tsinghua University's technology achievement transformation enterprise, Tupai Medical, released the "Biyun" digital holography OCT navigation microscope. This microscope has pioneered real-time 3D OCT navigation and intraoperative blood flow OCT navigation functions, as well as 3D-4K digital display capabilities, representing an important technological breakthrough in the transformation and development of domestic medical microscopes towards digitization and intelligence.

In the field of ophthalmic medical equipment, the complexity of high-end surgical microscopes can be considered the highest, and there has never been a breakthrough in localization before, "Huo Li, associate professor of the Department of Electronic Engineering at Tsinghua University, told the People's Daily Health Client reporter. The technology behind this device has accumulated over 20 years, from top-level design and development to end-to-end core components, all independently developed by domestic teams. 95% of the thousands of components involved in the equipment can be completed through the domestic optoelectronic industry supply chain.

At the press conference, multiple ophthalmologists experienced a new surgical mode of navigation in digital holography through animal eye surgery. In Huo Li's view, domestic substitution is not a complete imitation of foreign ideas, but rather a technological breakthrough and innovation based on China's actual medical needs. He gave an example that the innovative integration of 400000 intraoperative OCT and ophthalmic surgical microscopes is like equipping ophthalmologists with a super X-ray machine to capture every corner of the eyeball, providing doctors with a comprehensive "perspective view" of the eye. Especially for the development of procedures such as retinal vitrectomy and retinal drug implantation, it will play a crucial role in promoting the development of these procedures. Huo Li mentioned that one of the biggest challenges in the R&D process is technology conversion. Due to the involvement of many unprecedented functions, the system design of the "Cloud Picking" surgical microscope is brand new and unknown. The technology conversion process involves a large number of basic components, which are not only lacking in the domestic supply chain, but also in the overseas supply chain. In this context, the team has carried out a lot of work on "industrial gap filling", that is, cooperating with downstream supply chain industries to jointly develop various components suitable for new equipment, achieving breakthroughs in product performance bottlenecks, and also driving the overall development of the domestic optoelectronic industry chain. At the press conference, several ophthalmologists experienced a new surgical mode of digital holography navigation through Wet Lab animal eye surgery. Li Xiaorong, the director of Tianjin Medical University Ophthalmic Hospital, said that ophthalmic surgery, especially fundus surgery, requires high equipment, one is clarity, and the other is depth of field. After use, the performance of domestic surgical microscopes is comparable to that of imported brands, and the new digital and intelligent intraoperative navigation configuration of "Biyun" also provides the possibility for further exploration of various new surgical methods.
