(Summary description)A 61-year-old female African descendant with diagnosis of Sickle Cell Retinopathy (SCR) was studied by TowardPi 400 KHz UWF full-range SS-OCTA Bmizar. Typical SCR peripheral retinal ischemia was revealed on 24mm x 20mm UWF OCTA image with capillary dropout and non-perfusion areas. Severe posterior vitreous detachment adhering to optic disc was reconstructed by UWF 3D-OCT, appearing as an unusual ‘vitreous tornado’.

A 61-year-old female African descendant with diagnosis of Sickle Cell Retinopathy (SCR) was studied by TowardPi 400 KHz UWF full-range SS-OCTA Bmizar. Typical SCR peripheral retinal ischemia was revealed on 24mm x 20mm UWF OCTA image with capillary dropout and non-perfusion areas. Severe posterior vitreous detachment adhering to optic disc was reconstructed by UWF 3D-OCT, appearing as an unusual ‘vitreous tornado’. This wonderful case was recently published in American Journal of Ophthalmology, authored by Dr. Marta Gilardi and Dr. Marco Rispoli from Presidio Ospedaliero Oftalmico, Rome, Italy.
