(Summary description)Posterior Gaussian curvature -- brand new parameter assessing retinoschisis in high myopia by UWF-SS-OCT! Research recently published in <American Journal of Ophthalmology> evaluated macular retinoschisis and paravascular retinoschisis in high myopia and the relationship between existence of retinoschisis and posterior Gaussian curvature (K) by using UWF full Range SS-OCTA, authored by Dr. Qing Zhao, etc. team of Prof. Zhikun Yang, from Peking Union Medical College Hospital. The results showed that the largest Gaussian curvature was predominantly found in the posterior pole. Macular retinoschisis and higher maximum curvature value were significantly associated with the presence of paravascular retinoschisis. Longer axial length and higher Gaussian curvature could be high risk factors of whole retinoschisis. 'UWF-SS-OCT holds promise as an imaging technique for the early detection of extrafoveal retinoschisis.' A 400kHz speed full range swept source OCTA (#BMizar, TowardPi Medical) was used in this research to quantify the posterior Gaussian curvature (K) with built-in software on the device based on UWF 3D structural reconstruction.
