Information

128Hz Tracking 2 yrs old child, SS-OCTA of FEVR eye.

2.5-year-old boy, not coordinated in visual acuity test. Color fundus image showed grey cord-like folds in the temporal location of right eye. FFA presented anomalous vascularization and supernumerary vascular branching at the lesion (Fig3).

Swept-source OCT was applied on the kid (Fig2). Retinoschisis was detected in peripheral side (pentagram mark on SLO). OCTA image (Fig1) showed dragged retinal vessels temporally with apparent straightening of the vessels. The macula was dragged temporally as well, foveal contour was diminished.

Patient was diagnosed with Familial Exudative Vitreoretinopathy (FEVR). The management of FEVR depends on the clinical stage of the disease, an early diagnosis and treatment can be vision preserving. OCTA provides a non-invasive, high-resolution approach of retinal structure and vessels imaging, but scan on young children has always been a big challenge for OCT/OCTA acquisition.

TowardPi BMizar SS-OCT/OCTA (BM-400K) features with not only 400KHz laser, but also 128Hz tracking speed, which is more powerful than many current classic systems (50~120KHz laser with 15~30Hz tracking). That becomes the key elements of successful image collection on very young children, while keeping high quality in B-scan and OCTA images. In addition, BMizar can take OCTA scan up to 24mm width (12mm in this case within only 7~8 seconds).
